Can anyone give me the true definition for ';Feminism';?

I've been surfing this section for a while, so far it just seems like there is a strong hatred for men.Can anyone give me the true definition for ';Feminism';?
The dictionary definition of feminism is where you ought to look first. I think based on this basic definition you could quite easily identify as a feminist (you don't have to be a woman to be a feminist).

There are too many stereotypes about feminism, and you needn't make yourself conflicted just because of a select few morons within the movement. I'm sure as a guy you have known other men that embarrass you as a man by acting stereotypically of the male gender. We can't be held accountable for others actions.

Feminism is synonymous with humanism. In fact if you dislike the term feminist you can opt to call yourself a humanist. It's the same thing.

Feminism is only called feminism because it focuses on the historically oppressed gender. However, it deals with men's issues, and there is actually a branch of gender studies called Men's Studies. This course would study the sociological aspect of being a man- expectations, standards, systems of power, stuff like that. It's definitely not about hating men, or telling them they don't face their own unfair standards- it's about gender equality- equality of both men and women, not just women! and no, it is not the theory that men and women are biologically equal, but equal under the law, able to live equally fulfilling lives.

I think more than ever gender issues are important to address. Just turn on your television set, watch a commercial or two and analyze the gender dynamics between male and female actors. What roles are the men playing? What about the women? What does your analysis say about society and gender? It's actually a very interesting topic if you're into sociology.

Gender Studies is also the answer to that age old problem of men and women not understanding each other because this course is basically the scientific analysis of the genders. There is nothing closer to getting inside the mind of the opposite sex. This is all based on studies and analysis of gender behavior and commonalities.

Truly it's fascinating. I hope you look into it.

Here are some books that might be of interest to start you out:

Thinking About Women - college textbook for Women's Studies

The Female Chauvinist Pig - Analysis of raunch culture and women's role in it, and it's pretty disturbing honestly, but a good read.

Avoid Germaine Greer by the way, she's nuts, and Ms. Magazine too. Remember that even if you disagree with a particular feminist, that doesn't mean you are not a feminist, it may simply mean you disagree with that particular feminist, however if you're reading book after book and you're still thinking it's a bunch of bs, well then I suppose it really isn't for you, and that's okay, but don't let one moron drive you away forever.

Women need men to support them in this kind of stuff. This isn't a separatist thing in my opinion- in fact the more men the better.

I hope you are interested in learning about this stuff. It will change your view on everything if you discover you understand the subject.

I like to analyze things into the ground, so it's one of the many topics I think about a little too much. If you're like me this could spawn a lot of analytical thought- which to me is fun =DCan anyone give me the true definition for ';Feminism';?
It's a difficult issue because the definition we see in most dictionaries is so out of date, but no one will dare change it to reflect the truth.

Classical Feminism was a righteous movement which simply sought equal rights for women and was all about fairness and had no interest in supremacy. There were areas where things needed to be fixed so that human rights could be maintained. Classical Feminism is all about ensuring that women and men have equal access to opportunities (not about equal outcomes).

There were a few waves of Feminism and by the so-called second wave of Feminism, there were these man-hating radicals who corrupted the righteous movement into a totally different entity which was predicated on the hatred of men and about attaining Supremacy.

These highly influential architects of Contemporary Feminism were ladies like Andrea Dworkin, Germaine Greer, Catherine McKinnon, Gloria Steinem and such who were highly influential in academia and politics in advancing a huge amount of anti-male legislation. The agenda was no longer about seeking equality since by the late seventies and 80s we had gender equality in the West, but these ladies wanted Supremacy and hated men, so they were on a mission to marginalized men by any means possible and they tools were Women's Studies courses in universities which demonized men and described some elusive patriarchy which doesn't exist.

Contemporary or modern Feminism is simply that movement or philosophy that is predicated on the hatred of men and Supremacy. Although these ladies talk about the horrible atrocities and frank human rights abuses that plague ladies and girls in countries in the Middle East, they don't do a damn thing about it in truth.

They continue finding bullshit to complain about and perpetuate fallacies and misinformation.
Feminism is the radical notion that women are human beings. Feminists believe that men and women are fundamentally more alike than they are different and should have the same opportunities and responsibilities.

I am always amazed by people who visit this section and come away with the idea that there is a strong hatred for men. Not that those posts don't exist, but there are so many more extreme women hating posts. For every woman who says men are shallow, there is a post that says women are gold diggers but I don't see many posts saying most men are selfish whores with no personal responsibility. Those are saved for the ladies.
The true definition of feminism is often misunderstood, as you have witnessed from this forum. The most helpful comment I could make, would be for you to study up on the origins of the movement and what the original issues were.

Each era had its points of conflict and its expressions of discontent. The foundation was built on the rights of women to have an equal voice in society.

.
Feminism is a movement. Movements change over time but the only real definition is it is a movement that advocates for increasing female rights.

Two decades ago relative parity was beginning to be achieved but feminism as a movement still advocated for increasing female rights till the point it went from a progressive movement to a supremacy movement and since begun advocating for limiting men's rights since the early to mid 90's to the present day.

--------

Ignore catch phrases they use to hide the truth. The Klan and the Nazis used similar phrases before they where really exposed as supremacy movements and rightfully vilified in the society they existed in when enough people got fed up of them(the Klan through change in peoples behavior, Nazis through war and revealing the truth of there actions aka Holocaust)

Don't use this forum as an example of feminism and anti feminism or anything. Look at the real world and what feminist leaders are doing and saying. For example The speaker of the House is a feminist (Nancy Pelosi) since 06. Since 06 men's health research has been cut and or scaled back while women's health research has been increased and expanded(before a feminist became speaker of the house for every dollar spent on womens health research 50 cents was spent on mens, now it is 0.45 cents on the dollar).

Look paternity fraud as a prime example that feminism is a supremacy movement. If feminism really advocated for equality the would never take the position they did.
It is a lot clearer if you understand that there are two types of feminism.

The first type is the original movement that promoted equality for women. This ended in the 1920s. The second type is a lot different, and basically a weird distortion of the original movement. Modern (post 1960s) feminism seeks special rights for women and is anti-male.

A good example of modern feminism in action is the UK government Equality Minister, Harriet Harman, who has publicly requested employers to hire women in preference to White men if both job candidates are equally qualified http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/pol鈥?/a>

Here we see how modern feminist 1/ have power, 2/ use it to promote women and discriminate against men, 3/ do this under the banner of 'equality'.
I was born right at the end of the Civil Rights Movement, and I think that's where my confusion comes from along with everyone else who was born after. We were raised in an atmosphere where all the Civil Rights and Feminist Movement stuff was talked about as if it had happened eons ago and there was no gender or race issues anymore, anywhere (at least where I was from). We were not taught about any of it in school, or very little. So my age group got blindsided when we went out in the world and found out that it was only a short time ago. All the women that I know who are my age view Feminism as the original definition, just advocacy for equal rights and treatment for females, which I think is pretty freaking normal, I can't imagine why anyone would think otherwise unless they were supremacists. But apparently those of us who were busy keeping our noses to the grindstone and raising kids were unaware of the extremists within the movement. I really only became aware of it in the last couple of years, talking to older men like my Dad. Feminism is the movement that made actual rights possible for women and it has a very long history (sorry I'm sure you know that), but I guess like every group power freaks are involved too and wrecked the original notion. The thing that upsets me and a lot of women that I know is that some people confuse anti-feminist with anti-female; political disagreement and opposition is very different from personal hatred. It's very painful to read posts and rants from those who say they are opposed to Feminism when their words are actually opposing females. I personally think anyone who is a supremacist anything is damaged in some way.

Now, make up your own mind now that you've seen that the movement is about.

Remember, actions speak louder than words.
***The Contemporary Definition Of Feminism***

Special rights, rules, protections ,laws, quotas ,programs and subsidies ,that benefit women (and only women) usually at the expense of others.
The definition changes so much I, that I have no idea what the meaning is anymore.

When 2 feminists ( 1 hating and 1 non-hating) have a different definition of what feminism really is, who do we believe?
fem路i路nism (f臅m'蓹-n沫z'蓹m)

1.Belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.

2. The movement organized around this belief.
its a subjective term generally used to identify people who feel women should be placed on a pedestal and worshiped while men are herded into re-education camps.
Feminism is a hate filled revenge movement.
A hate movement that promote misandry and demand special privileges for women.
i think the upstair was wright, give the point to he
I'm not quite sure, but I know it evokes a lot of emotion and conflict in people.
