To me, the term 'thug' embodies someone that is dumbed-down, scandalous, brash, mischievous, bullish, and dishonest. Although I do like some of Trick's songs, he kind of exemplifies what a thug is.





Tupac is a good answer as well, but his Thug was figurative, not literal. The answerer explaining Tupac's meaning of Thug is really correct, too.

Tupac Shakur, he defined what a thug is. He even did the song ';My Definition of a Thug *****';, and named his group Thug Life. I mean the guy had Thug Life tattooed on his belly. Rappers weren't even calling themselves thugs until he came along. It was ';gangstas'; until he showed up and used that word. He literally defined it. How's someone gonna make a list without him on it? Just cuz hes dead doesnt mean he didnt exist. You find me one person that called themself thug in hip hop before he came along.





1. He was from the most famous black panther family out there. He was raised by his mother who was put in prison for a supposed bomb conspiracy against the government. Grew up with the famous political prisoner Mutulu Shakur as his stepfather, and Assata Shakur (who escaped from prison and won political asylum in Cuba from Fidel Castro).


2. He shot 2 crooked cops in their butts.


3. He sued the Oakland police department for beating him up and they settled out of court with him.


4. He was shot 5 times and still managed to flick the camera off as he was being loaded into the ambulance.

5. He served 11 months in a maximum security prison.


6. He has a 119 page FBI file

2Pac was a thug in the way that he shot, got shot, beat up people and had criminal records but 2Pac never meant the word ';thug'; in that way.





Thug for him was an underdog, someone who came from the worse living conditions or a very though life who made it through in life. Who survived. I didn't explain it too well but that's what he meant.

The definition of a 'thug' is a rapper reppin the hood, has a lot of seriousness and a lot of swag. They also have a distinctive Hip Hop image and way of dress.
