What is the true definition of goalie interference?

Last night after the Ducks Redwings game I am completely confused! Scott Neidermeyer clearly ran into and hampered Chris Osgood in his ability to make a save, yet the goal was allowed! Please someone explain to me why last year the shadow of Tomas Holmstroms behind was interference and this year you are allowed to run the goalie? What is the true definition of goalie interference?
What he said ^^What is the true definition of goalie interference?
Unfortunately, it is subjective call by the referee. I tend to agree that Niedermeyer interfered with Osgood (the puck may have gone in any way, but we've seen penalties given out for goaltender interference AFTER a goal, too).

Here is a link to the NHL rule book: http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26348

The intent is that a player cannot INTENTIONALLY interfere with the goalies ability to stop the puck. Outside of the crease incidental or accidental contact is allowed, but inside the crease any contact with the goaltender that prevents him stopping the puck should be called (imho). Of course, there are all kinds of gray areas when defencemen push the opposing forwards into the goalie ....
