What is the true definition of disappointment?

I am not trying to get a websters dictionary answer!! I just want to know is it failure or coming up short. Anything well thought out but for goodness sake anything but a dictionary's definition!!!!


What is the true definition of disappointment?
To be a disappointment, you've failed to reach your full potential. You have all of this ability to do wonderful, great, marvelous things but you come up short. You've previously proven that you are capable, but instead, you fail to achieve someones expectations.





Where as, disappointment, could also be seen ';I was disappinted that you couldnt make it'; That is when you haven't done what someone expected you to do, they expected that you would show up for dinner, but you had other things to do.

it's a feeling of sadness or frustration, because something didn't work out the way you expected it to. ie you've been craving a cheeseburger for a week and finally get the chance to have one, your mouth is watering as you finally get it to your lips, you bite into it.......it's dry, they put onions on it and the bun is stale. = disappointment.

disappointment is something that didn't meet expectations


there were hopes and they didn't come true


coming up short is a good way to describe it





failure could be another way for sure, but for some reason failure is most cases is a stronger term than disappointment

Disappoointment is what you make it. It is a let down of your own expectations and not those or of that that disappointed you. You can only be upset or let down if something does not go according to your expectations and you cannot blame anyone but yourself.
Its like sadness almost. people get disappointed when something doesn't turn out the way they planned. so it's kind of like being sad or stressed.
Son, I'm not angry you ran a red light and side-swiped a hearse, I'm disappointed.
The emotion felt when a strongly held expectation is not met.
It's the feeling you get when I don't answer your question the way you want me to.
