In criminal law, the of ';age of consent'; is the age at which a person is considered to be capable of ';legally'; giving informed consent to sexual acts/relations with another person.
Meaning, if the age of consent in your state is 16, you can legally have ';consensual sex'; with anyone your age or older. What exactly is the true definition of '; age of consent';?
It's the teenager themselves.
The age of consent is the age at which a person is deemed legally capable of consenting, or agreeing to, sex. Statutory rape is having sex with someone who is not legally capable of having sex (due to age, disability, or intoxication). People under a certain age aren't considered (by the law to be) capable of understanding and accepting the possible consequences of sex. They also are considered more susceptible to manipulation.
In short, it's to keep people in a position of power (be it from authority or sobriety) from taking advantage of another person and getting them to do something that they might not truly understand or wish to do.
I hope that helps.
You might want to pay less attention to trying to use the legal system to undermine your Dad's advice and instead ... actually listen to your Dad (yes, I know, cliche' and annoying) ...
... when you get significantly older you will, like everyone eventually does, look back and realize your parents were actually right about a lot of things and much grief could have been saved had you listened to them.
It means you are old enough to consent to sexual relations. Most states still have laws forbidding people who are not married to have sex. And many states have strict age limits until 18. Check out the link
age of consent means own and not of parents.
When the person concerned is himself/herself capable of consenting
