What is the true definition of a bandwagon fan?

Take a look at all the so-called ';questions'; which have appeared since the Sabres-Sens game ended. It's just a bunch of dirtbags with no clue about how to behave in victory (it's called CLASS, you ******* rodents!) attacking Buffalo and its fans. But look more carefully and you'll find many aren't even Senators fans at all. It's subhuman scum like sean avery, a ranjerks fan still crying because his team got beat down by the Sabres at home. That moron novaicedog, a Dallas fan who hates the Sabres -- get this -- because his worthless choker team won a Cup based on Buffalo being cheated (No Goal). Circular logic if ever I saw it. There is some ditz called chiz who is only able to come up with posts like, ';hahahaha i hate the sabres... GO WINGS!!!'; And of course the bigmouth coward bob lowblow (a flyers fan) who was completely emasculated by Buffalo Sabres. None of them are supposed to be Ottawa fans but here they are. Don't these pieces of garbage DEFINE bandwagon ';fans';?What is the true definition of a bandwagon fan?
First off, I wish this site were ethically administered so that people couldn't steal other members' avatars. I've employed the classic Buffalo Sabres logo since I first registered here in August of last year. This turncoat Ben joined in November and only began using my avatar about a week ago. Talk about your bandwagon-jumpers!

In answer to your excellent question, Benny is the quintessential bandwagon fan, as Lidstromnumber1fan has already indicated. However, your description is also a perfect representation of bandwagon fandom. Basically, anyone who only starts rooting for a team when they're winning is a bandwagon fan. Real Sabres fans like myself who've suffered through long years of mediocrity and worse (remember the dread Bowman years of the '80s?) stand by our team and continue to support them through thick and thin. Bandwagonners just hop on board when they're winning (like last year's playoff run and this President's Cup-winning season). It is as simple as that.

As for the disgraceful conduct of the bandwagon scum you singled out in your follow-up commentary (and many others besides), I don't know what to tell you. I've never in my life seen such a vile display of classless, belligerent hatespeak. These people clearly have problems well beyond the sporting arena. Ottawa fans, for the most part, have behaved no better. I am extremely disappointed in this fact and will remember it, always.

Go Sabres! Your REAL fans are still here and always will be, period. What is the true definition of a bandwagon fan?
Thanks a lot. I enjoy your posts too. As far as the Sabres' rallying cry, I just added ';one game at a time'; to the already existent motto for our team. It's just meant to remind us all that we have to take this one step at a time if we're to pull this off. Anything is possible!

SOMEONE WHO LIKES A TEAM ONLY WHEN THEY ARE WINNING
There is a different between a BANDWAGON FAN and JUMPING ON THE BANDWAGON FAN.

Bandwagon Fan is yes, a person who cheers for a team to fit in socially and/or cheers for a team, when they are winning especially in the post-season. BUT doesn't know anything.. or not much about the team or better yet the SPORT ITSELF.

Jumping on the Bandwagon Fan is a person who cheers for a team AFTER their team has been knocked out of the playoffs. And cheers for another team that is still in the playoffs. Which is ME right now at this point. I live in Vancouver but I am not a Canuck's fan. I am a FLAMES FAN. But more than anything I am a hockey fan and I am Canadian (living). So I always root for the next Canadian team.

So, when my Flames got knocked out (I hate Detroit). I jumped on the Senators Bandwagon, but I had always liked the Senators, they are a good team and fun to watch. If Hasek was healthy for last year's playoffs, Ottawa would've made it to the Finals. Plus Ottawa has the best Logo in the NHL.

Either way, it is good for the NHL economically. As long as the Bandwagons Fans are buying jerseys and merchandises, buying playoffs tickets and next season's tickets. Plus some people just want something to cheer for especially if its their city.
For a TRUE definition of a bandwagon fan just look at the 10th question before this one.

Look for the Buffalo Sabres logo and the name Ben.

Read his question ';Where will you be when the Sabres get swept on Wednesday'; and then his detailed info after the question.

THAT my friends is a TRUE DIE HARD BANDWAGON FAN!!
A bandwagon fan, like other people said, is someone that pretends to like a team to fit in socially. They buy team merchandise and talk about them and insult other teams' fans even though they don't really know much about what they're saying.

The people you mentioned are not bandwagon fans. They're not Sens fans at all... they're just rooting for someone since their team is out of it.

Personally, I'm rooting for the Sens too. Not because the Sabres beat my Rangers (which I think was a great series), but because I live in Sabres country and I had to deal with people yelling at me for wearing my Rangers hat, for people trying to insult me and not knowing about the game, for the bad hecklers that talk to me at HSBC arena, and for the fact that 10,000 people camp outside of HSBC arena now when last season the arena was empty inside. Being an opposing fan in enemy territory makes you dislike the home team. :). I actually like and respect a lot of the sabres players, but their fans make me root against the team.

Most people that post on this board, sabres fans and sabres haters alike, don't really have anything worthwhile to say. Just ignore them, don't let them get to you, and wade through their bad comments until you see someone post something intelligent.

I'm a Rangers fan. No matter who I'm rooting for in these playoffs, I'm a Rangers fan. But I'm also a hockey fan, and I can watch the game to see some good hockey, even if my team is gone. I was hoping for a long, intense series.
I dont think they're Sens fans, just anti-Buffalo fans, which I hate because its just ';no matter what team loses, I'm gonna pick on them';...i think there may be only like 5-10 TRUE Sens fans on here, because it doesnt get much attention...the rest are just anti-Sabres...

I think the Sens have that problem too...we have some Devils and Pens fans cheering for the Sabre's because we eliminated them, and I bet that if ottawa gets to the finals, we will have some Sabre fans cheering against us.

All fans arent like this though because at the end of both the Pittsburgh and Devils series there were people saying congrats and good luck in the next round (some Buffalo people have even said it already) so there are some fans out there with class and who like to retain their dignity
Good use of the ';ditz named chiz';...speaking of bandwagoneers... (technical term,by the way...maybe of use to those who like throwing it around).

Great post, called it like it is. Good for you.
bandwagon fans generally begin to like a team once they start doing well, and BECAUSE they are doing well. (meaning, if you're a kid growing up and you're learning hockey and the wings just HAPPEN to be good, that's not your fault. so the kid isn't a bandwagon fan)

unfortunately, for red wings fans, the wings have been doing well for so long (if you count making the playoffs as your measuring stick), that most wings fans are bandwagoners.
A bandwagon is someone who sides with something just to fit in socially and doesn't even know what they're rooting for; which is what Sabres fans have been all year long. Most Sabres fans doesn't even know what a penalty is, judging from all the whining they've done all playoffs. The only reason why people are knocking them tonight is just to shove it back in their faces. I don't blame them; they deserve to be put in their place.
Don't forget smashing pint glasses also hockey girl.

It is not about a bandwagon, it is just some people get frustrated with the constant barade of trash talk from some Sabre fans. I wouldn't take it personally. Plus, the series is not over yet.
Don't try so hard to educate a group of some idiots constantly using the word, without knowing it, because I haven't seen any group of bandwagon Sabres fans, at least not on this board as those idiots claim.
I've always held that the bandwagon of Sabre haters is far bigger than the bandwagon of Sabre fans.
A ';bandwagon fan'; is one who just becomes a fan of the winner. Personally, I'm a Texan, and a Stars fan (oops), but I, like so many others, have had enough of obnoxious Sabres fans talking so much smack since the Sabres won the President's Trophy, and saying the Cup was as good as theirs. Hell... they were lucky to get past the Rangers. Watching the Sens totally dominate them is making my day. Damn it must be rough being a sports fan in Buffalo.
when buffalo fans stop vandalizing cars in Raleigh then you can judge the ';class'; of other fans
